About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider delivers high-quality medical care, including patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, prescribing, follow-up care, and patient education for individuals with a variety of health concerns. The role works as part of an integrated health care team to provide acute, emergent, and chronic care in compliance with applicable policy, guidance, and accreditation standards, while supporting patient advocacy, continuity of care, infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and accurate documentation in the electronic health record.

Requirements

  • Must have and maintain an unrestricted and current license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant issued by state the state of Maryland or the ability to obtain one.
  • One-year full-time equivalent of experience in primary care as a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. Clinical experience must be current and within the past five years.
  • Must have and maintain unrestricted license to prescribe controlled medications from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program located in a State, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory. Must be accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessors. The degree issuing institution and/or program must be accredited by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Must have and maintain certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Graduate from an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner program located in a State, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory. The degree issuing institution and/or program must be accredited by an entity recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Must have and maintain board certification as Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (AANC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Required to walk unaided at a normal pace for up to 5 minutes and maintain balance.
  • Required to jog/fast walk up to ¼ mile.
  • Requires physical exertion such as lifting objects greater than 30 pounds.
  • Required to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.
  • Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging patients or staff exiting the building (may require lifting, dragging, wheeling, or carrying someone who weighs significantly more than self).
  • Must be able to see, hear and smell with aids if necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or carry 30 pounds.
  • Must perform the duties of my job in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Average manual dexterity for computer operation.
  • Phone or computer use for extended periods of time.
  • Must maintain current/physical residency in the continental U.S.
  • Pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician within 30 days prior to initial assignment.
  • U.S. citizen and have resided in the U.S. for the last five years (unless abroad on official U.S. government duty).
  • Successfully engage in and complete a thorough Background Investigation.
  • Poses or have ability to obtain required security clearances.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a detention, correctional or residential healthcare setting (preferred, not required).
  • Verbal and written proficiency in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Advanced Practice Provider Collaborative Practice and Prescriptive Authority Agreement.
  • Work as part of an integrated health care team to provide acute, emergent, and chronic health care to patients in compliance with policy, guidance, and accreditation standards.
  • Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform physical evaluations.
  • Provide behavioral health care and minor outpatient surgical procedures as required by the patient’s medical condition.
  • Apply clinical knowledge to documented treatment plans, prescriptions, and care delivery throughout the life span, as appropriate to discipline and facility setting.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic studies and apply findings to diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, referrals, and follow-up after hospitalization or consultation.
  • Participate in and comply with court-ordered treatment plans, including evaluation and treatment of patients with psychiatric illness or life-threatening conditions, including hunger strike.
  • Provide age-specific and gender-specific health care, including treatment of gender dysphoria and pregnancy.
  • Consult with the staff physician, Clinical Director, and consultants as required by policy and for complex medical and psychiatric patients.
  • Provide infirmary care, including admission, discharge, and daily rounds for patients who require a higher level of care and monitoring.
  • Coordinate patient health care needs, including referrals to off-site consultants.
  • Interpret Tuberculin skin tests and diagnostic studies and manage Direct Observation Therapy for treatment of active or latent tuberculosis.
  • Take appropriate infection control actions in accordance with applicable policy and guidance.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and properly dispose of sharps and infectious waste.
  • Provide relevant patient health education verbally and with written materials.
  • Assist with preparation for accreditation and ongoing compliance with standards as assigned.
  • Participate in all required credentialing and peer review processes.
  • Facilitate and mentor Advanced Practice Provider onboarding and training.
  • Maintain productivity consistent with the average Advanced Practice Provider productivity at the assigned facility.
  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability to sudden changes in schedules and work requirements.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in communications with coworkers and clients and support an inclusive and respectful work environment.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned client-specified requirements for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in rotational on-call duties and return to the facility to provide care when required.
  • Be available to workday shifts, evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Utilize and document interpreter, translation, or other assisted communication services as needed to support patients or stakeholders with limited English proficiency, disability, or other communication impediments.
  • Document patient care in the electronic health record in the required format, in a timely manner, and in compliance with applicable policy, guidance, and privacy requirements.
  • Perform additional contract-aligned duties within scope of practice and competency as assigned.
  • Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
