About The Position

Good Samaritan University Hospital is expanding with a new Patient Care Pavilion featuring an Emergency Department, operating rooms, and private patient rooms. The Advanced Practice Provider - Physician Assistant for Trauma Surgery Service will provide emergency surgery/trauma call coverage, including assessment, surgery if needed, consultation, rounding, and follow-up of patients. This role emphasizes fostering teamwork and communication among all internal and external constituencies.

Requirements

  • Physician Assistant must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.
  • Physician Assistant's must have current NCCPA certification.
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • NYS licensed with certification.
  • Physician Assistant Certified (PA-C).
  • DEA registration required for those with discharge responsibilities.
  • BLS/ACLS/AED training required and accepted from only 1 organizations: American Heart Association - BLS/ACLS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.
  • No online programs from any organization will be accepted for BLS/ACLS/AED training.

Responsibilities

  • Provides emergency surgery/trauma call coverage, including assessment, surgery if needed, consultation, rounding and follow-up of patients.
  • Fosters teamwork and communication among all internal and external constituencies.
  • Provides in-house services as scheduled by the Medical Director or designee.
  • Serves as the attending physician for his/her own patients in the SICU and serves as a consultant when requested.
  • Assists the attending and/or consultant physician in the management of patients in the SICU.
  • In emergent situations in the SICU, when the physician is not the attending or consultant, evaluates and stabilizes patients until an attending or consultant physician can be contacted and/or arrives.
  • Directs the management of such patient until such time as the attending or consultant physician arrives to assume responsibility to direct care.
  • The attending or consultant physician may delegate responsibility to the physician, allowing him/her to continue to direct care for specific patients in the SICU.
  • Evaluates patients in the Medical Center for potential admission to the SICU.
  • Evaluates hospitalized patients who have become unstable and are considered for transfer to the SICU.
  • Responds immediately to assist in the care of critically ill patients anywhere in the Medical Center as requested by an attending or consultant physician.
  • Supervises and assists house staff in the evaluation and management of team care patients.
  • Provides call coverage for all Emergency Department and transfer hotline general surgery consults and admissions and any emergent or urgent general surgery in-patient consults.
  • Provides inpatient management of general emergent or urgent general surgery patients along with outpatient follow up.
  • Provides In-House trauma coverage for Emergency Department and transfer hotline.
  • Provides inpatient management of trauma patients along with outpatient clinic follow up.
