Riverside Medical Group is currently seeking a full-time Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our team at Riverside Surgical Specialists in Gloucester, Virginia. The Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will join a high‑volume general surgery practice, providing comprehensive care to patients across outpatient, inpatient, and procedural settings. This full‑time role includes supporting the surgeon in clinic, assisting with pre‑ and post‑operative management, participating in hospital on‑call coverage, and delivering dedicated wound care services within the practice. The APP will work collaboratively with the surgical team and multidisciplinary partners to ensure high‑quality, patient-centered care and seamless coordination throughout the continuum of treatment.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) for Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult- Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of surgical or acute care experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical rotations may be considered.
  • Experience or strong interest in wound care management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to participate in hospital call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive patient care in collaboration with general surgeons in both clinic and hospital settings.
  • Conduct patient evaluations, histories, physical exams, and follow-up visits.
  • Assist with pre-operative and post-operative management of surgical patients.
  • Participate in hospital on-call rotation as assigned, including inpatient consults and rounding.
  • Manage and treat wound care patients within the practice, including assessments, dressing changes, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Provide office‑based procedural care such as skin lesion excisions, punch biopsies, abscess drainages, and the removal of implanted devices including ports and dialysis catheters.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging as appropriate.
  • Perform approved procedures within scope of practice and credentialing.
  • Document all patient encounters in accordance with practice and hospital standards.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up care
