About The Position

The Advance Practice Provider (APP) in Hospitalist Nephrology plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive inpatient nephrology care across diverse hospital settings. This position involves collaborating closely with nephrologists, multidisciplinary teams, and other healthcare professionals to manage acute and chronic kidney conditions, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. The APP will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and managing patients with complex renal disorders, including electrolyte imbalances, acute kidney injury, and dialysis management. This role demands a strong commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement within the hospital environment. Ultimately, the APP will contribute to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of nephrology services, improving patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes throughout their hospital stay.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of graduate education (master’s, post-master’s, or doctoral level) from a nationally accredited NP program
  • National board certification (ANCC or AANP)
  • Valid, unrestricted North Carolina RN license
  • Initial Nurse Practitioner Approval to Practice and good standing with the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • MSN or DNP preferred with FNP, ANP, AGNP, or ACNP certification preferred
  • BLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) and ACLS certification, current and maintained
  • Clear criminal background history
  • Ongoing continuing education and license maintenance
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for support across office, hospital, and dialysis locations as needed
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with Electronic Health Records
  • Hospital experience preferred, but not required
  • Nephrology experience is a plus
  • 3 years of APP experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate with a strong clinical foundation, the right mindset, and a commitment to learning nephrology care

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a hospitalist nephrology team or similar inpatient nephrology service.
  • Fellowship or advanced training in nephrology or critical care.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems commonly used in hospital settings.
  • Participation in research, quality improvement projects, or professional organizations related to nephrology.
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to educate patients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and review of diagnostic tests related to nephrology.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases in collaboration with nephrologists and the healthcare team.
  • Manage inpatient dialysis treatments and monitor patients for complications or changes in clinical status.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families regarding kidney disease management, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and quality improvement initiatives to optimize patient care and hospital protocols.
  • Document all patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and timely in the electronic medical record system.
  • Stay current with advances in nephrology practice and hospital medicine to ensure the delivery of evidence-based care.
