About The Position

The Adult Services Manager is responsible for managing all Adult Services staff and activities including reference and local history, adult outreach, adult (and family) programming, and other services for patrons.

Requirements

• Currently working toward Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited university required.
• 3+ years of public library experience required.
• Strong leadership qualities, innovative ideas, self-motivation, and the commitment to providing excellent customer service in a public library are essential.
• Computer fluency and willingness to learn new technologies
• Knowledge of professional library principles and practices
• Expertise in library’s resources, services, classification system, policies and procedures
• Ability to make decisions and supervise the work of others. Ability to make a schedule to fit patron demand.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and Saturdays
• Position requires walking and standing for long periods. Requires light lifting and carrying of up to 40 pounds.
• Must like working with people of all ages.
• Maintains professional relationships with co-workers and supervisor while utilizing excellent communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited university preferred.
• Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises Adult Services staff, offers assistance and feedback on programming, assigns work and tasks to employees, and ensures timely completion of programming preparation work.
• Responsible for databases, microfilm, newspapers, obituaries, and other resources.
• Orders Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction for Library System.
• Creates an innovative, user-friendly department for adults to work with a wide variety of technologies and office equipment.
• Directs ongoing training for Adult Services employees.
• Works closely with Youth Services Manager for outreach services and Summer/Winter Reading.
• Familiarizes self with library policies to reach expert level and keeps informed of public library trends, popular culture, and services.
• Other duties as assigned.
