SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE The part-time ESL Instructor shall be a certified teacher who is knowledgeable in the learning process and who can develop a language arts curriculum that responds to the needs and abilities of the ESL students. The instructor’s ultimate goal is for all students to feel more confident in speaking English. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Classroom Management Demonstrate an awareness of cultural differences. Develop an understanding of survival skills limited speakers of English will need. Provide accommodations for students with special needs as necessary. Student Enrollment: Complete paperwork as required. Assess educational levels using the materials approved by the state office for TABE Class D/E. Counseling with students. Completion of Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) Collaborate with students to determine needs. Identify long and short-term goals. Plan objectives to meet goals. Provide information on educational resources that will be needed to attain objectives. Provide feedback to students on progress. Document progress. Instruction Provide instruction for the EL/Civics program based on the Modules provided. Provide instruction based on the Arkansas Adult ESL Curriculum Guidelines. Provide students with appropriate curriculum materials based on the student IEP. Provide individualized instruction using text or workbook activities. Utilize teaching methods including one-on-one instruction, small group activities, peer tutoring, and demonstration. Utilize phonetic skill training. Provide a wide variety of language experience in language usage, reading, and writing to enable students to develop communication skills in English. Be familiar with and provide computer-aided instruction utilizing Burlington English and Rosetta Stone. Utilize teaching aids such as audio-visual equipment, marker-board, manipulatives, and other hands-on activities to enhance instruction. Record Keeping and Reports Retest students as required for NRS benchmarks. Maintain student files as required. Keep accurate records of attendance. Complete records and reports as required. Record student progress. Write letters or make calls for student recruitment and retention purposes. Clerical Responsibilities Type letters. Answer phones. Prepare and organize files for instructional material. Maintain individual student files. Assist in inventorying and ordering textbooks, etc. Will perform other duties as assigned.
