About The Position

The ESOL/Adult Education Coordinator is an experienced, well-organized instructor of ESOL and adult education. Experience must include both in-person and online teaching familiarity. Under the Workforce Adult Development Division, the ESOL/Adult Education Coordinator assists individuals in learning basic education skills, including English, needed for day-to-day living to increase employment opportunities and attain financial stability.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree with a minimum of three years of experience teaching adults and classroom management; bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of one year of experience
  • Experience in online classroom teaching and management
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Deliver ESOL instruction aligned with MA ELPS standards, using varied teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles and language acquisition skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
  • Support instructors with BEST Plus 3.0 Test Administration following a minimum of 60 instructional hours, ensuring adherence to CAL guidelines for accurate measurement of student progress.
  • Adapt curriculum for individual, small-group, and remedial needs while maintaining a productive, respectful, and organized learning environment.
  • Manage instructional time effectively and support out-of-classroom activities such as assessments, orientations, and special events.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and oversight to instructors; conduct classroom observations; and support lesson planning to ensure instructional quality and alignment with program standards.
  • Lead and facilitate teacher meetings and professional development, collaboration, and sharing of best practices.
  • Address instructional concerns promptly and ensure instructor compliance with all program policies and reporting requirements.
  • Advise ESOL students academically and refer them to appropriate internal or external resources for additional support.
  • Ensure accurate and timely student data entry in LACES, ENGAGE, and other required systems in collaboration with the Program Assistant.
  • Collaborate with the Workforce Coordinator and MassHire Career Center to support student career pathways and transitions.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and program events, and assist with recruitment, enrollment, and assessments as needed.
  • Work required evening hours (Mon–Thu) and select Saturdays to support program operations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Division Director to support program goals and compliance.
