The Adult Education Coordinator at the IRC in New York City plays a vital role in the implementation and delivery of educational services for adult clients. This position oversees the intake and enrollment process for adult education programs, ensuring efficient coordination and client placement. The coordinator is responsible for managing program data and reporting to support compliance, evaluation, and continuous improvement. Additionally, they provide instructional support by substituting for ESL teachers as needed to maintain classroom continuity. The role also includes supervising, training, and mentoring interns, fostering their professional development and ensuring they contribute effectively to program operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience working with adult learners from a variety of cultural and linguistic groups
  • Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated competence with adult education and English Language Learning principles
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work successfully in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Highly organized, responsible, and flexible; ability to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to use the internet and other resources for research and problem-solving purposes.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with refugee, asylum seeker and other immigrant populations highly preferred.
  • Experience with data intake and developing monitoring and evaluation systems is highly desired.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel).
  • Experience drafting reports to funders and supporting with preparation and execution of funder monitoring visits.
  • Experience teaching English to adult learners highly desired
  • Fluency in one of the languages of populations served is highly desired (Arabic, French, Russian, Spanish or Ukrainian).

Responsibilities

  • Lead intake, enrollment and data management for Adult Education Programs: Take a lead role in coordinating intake and enrollment for Adult Education Programs, including English language learning.
  • Lead outreach efforts to recruit students to IRC’s Adult Education programs.
  • Conduct English language assessments for students during enrollment and when they hit post-testing benchmarks.
  • Ensure all program data are inputted in databases, per IRC and funder requirements.
  • Manage program data and reporting to support compliance, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement checks monthly, and support team members address gaps in data input and program quality.
  • Support the provision of Adult English Language learning opportunities:
  • Instruct ESOL classes at the IRC in NY as needed.
  • Coordinate Adult ESOL Tutoring.
  • Actively participate in strategic development and design of programs, as led by Adult Education Manager, to support the educational and emotional well-being of newcomer adults.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate data for adult education programs including case notes, attendance, assessments, and survey responses.
  • Support in reporting for internal and external purposes.
  • Meet with funders and prepare grant reports and documentation as needed.
  • Take a leading role in ensuring all program data and information are up to date and accurate for monitoring visits
  • Participate in IRC network-wide initiatives to understand and share best-practices relating to adult education, case management services and cultural orientation.
  • Recruit, orient, train and supervise volunteers and interns to support education and learning programs for adults.
  • Contribute to team-wide initiatives and adapt to evolving program needs as required.
