About The Position

An Administrator on Duty is accountable for proactively coordinating the activities of admission, discharge and transfer of patients thereby supporting throughput in the facility. AOD's provide direction to department leaders to ensure safe levels of staffing while maintaining efficient hospital throughput, while serving as a resource for all staff and is able to apply competent knowledge and skills to achieve quality outcomes. AOD's provide an interim leadership including but not limited to crisis management intervention as a representative of hospital administration. Channels pertinent patient/employee/department information to appropriate internal and external sources.

Requirements

  • BS/BSN required.
  • If BS degree not in nursing, a Master's or higher degree in Nursing is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience required with relevant leadership experience preferred.
  • Must maintain a solid/strong performer rating on annual performance review.
  • Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 / 34 / 73 with renewal
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Nice To Haves

  • CNL/MSN preferred.
  • ACLS preferred
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and precept student nurses, interns, graduate, and experienced nurses; develop new preceptors
  • Model continuous learning and professional growth through education and knowledge sharing
  • Share expertise across units and departments to strengthen team performance
  • Oversee patient placement via Admission/Discharge/Transfer (ADT) process in collaboration with physicians and healthcare teams
  • Apply critical thinking to advise providers, optimize care delivery, and maximize resource efficiency
  • Identify hospital function issues and initiate corrective actions with leadership and administrative departments
  • Maintain safe, efficient, and supportive environments for patients, families, staff, and visitors
  • Utilize research and evidence-based methods to improve patient throughput and quality of care
  • Identify opportunities for capacity management and actively pursue quality improvement initiatives
  • Coach colleagues on cultural diversity, workplace respect, and impairment issues
  • Build strong, positive relationships through mentoring, transparent communication, and recognition of contributions
  • Demonstrate accountability in time management, safe work hours, and healthy lifestyle practices
  • Extend trust by recognizing contributions and clarifying expectations
  • Partner with hospital administration to resolve patient and staff improvement opportunities
  • Engage staff and stakeholders to enhance patient experience and hospital efficiency
  • Adapt interpersonal styles to gain acceptance of ideas and support staff during transitions
  • Represent the organization externally through professional and advocacy group participation
