About The Position

Grand Canyon University is one of Arizona’s leading institutions of higher learning. Located in the Valley of Sun in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, GCU is a regionally accredited, private, nondenominational Christian University. The Changing Lives Outreach program was developed by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences to provide GCU students with opportunities to transform lives by providing innovative outreach and support programming through collaboration with community organizations, churches, and K-12 schools. The Changing Lives Outreach Program is seeking a dedicated and motivated Student Worker to support the program in various tasks related to student volunteer support, community engagement, outreach events, and more. The ideal candidate should have excellent organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and a passion for fostering positive connections within the community.

Requirements

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient typing skills.
  • Must be comfortable working in a professional environment with all levels of staff and faculty.
  • Must be service oriented.
  • Must be comfortable with GCU’s campus and departments to direct guests, students and staff.
  • Must have prior computer knowledge and be able to copy, scan and fax documents.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and serve
  • Must be able to learn (or have prior knowledge of) the Resource Scheduler system.
  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
  • This position requires the employee to be eligible for Federal Work Study. If you are unsure of your status, please contact your SSC prior to applying.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly and professionally to emails and inquiries received in the Changing Lives Outreach inbox. Ensure all communications are appropriately addressed and forwarded to the relevant team members.
  • Assist in scheduling interviews with potential volunteers and available faculty or staff.
  • Coordinate and schedule classroom visits to promote the Changing Lives Outreach Program and encourage student participation in community initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the team to plan and execute special outreach events, including logistics, materials preparation, and attendee coordination.
  • Provide on-site support during special events, including setup, registration, and other necessary tasks.
  • Work closely with the CHSS (College of Humanities and Social Sciences) social media team to promote community events and engagement on various social platforms.
  • Communicate program updates, events, and opportunities to student clubs and organizations to encourage their involvement in community outreach activities.
  • Assist in tracking and maintaining records of volunteer hours, community engagement metrics, and other relevant data for reporting and analysis purposes.
  • Create visually appealing and engaging presentations for outreach events, volunteer training, and community partner meetings.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to integrate community engagement opportunities into their courses and support their efforts in community outreach.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit new volunteers on a monthly basis for ongoing community outreach initiatives.
  • Willingly take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the success of the Changing Lives Outreach Program.
