About The Position

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The Outreach Coordinator provides critical support throughout all three of the Division’s Sections: Pesticides, Structural Pest Control, and Sleep Products, as well as functioning within the Division’s Administrative Team, in meeting the Division’s goals of informing the public through outreach work. This position will work with the unit managers to properly reflect their unit’s mission. This position will coordinate with NCDA&CS composition and the print shop to achieve aesthetically pleasing and informative displays and brochures that educate the citizens of North Carolina about current topics of interest and safety while keeping in line with the mission statements of our three sections. Coordinate with Division staff to create one-page handouts and PowerPoint presentations to address outreach needs in relation to stewardship, compliance, and regulatory updates. (Small handout projects not to scale for print shop). Coordinate and compile information for the Division’s annual reports and newsletters. This position provides as needed backup support on a rotating basis to the Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center’s Receptionist. Outreach responsibilities will require some weekends during the month of October at the North Carolina State Fair and occasional (3-4 times a year) at other outreach events. Occasional backup for the mail run. Other duties as assigned. Must possess a valid NC Driver’s license within 60 days of hire.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid NC Driver’s license within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to organize volunteers and manage events.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • The individual should be dependable, flexible, adaptable, and possess the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to create fliers, presentations, and announcements.
  • Candidates should have strong communications skills and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
