About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! -- Process disciplinary packages for offenders who have fi led appeals to include entering data into the computerized tracking system. -- Maintain extensive knowledge of departmental organization, policy, and procedures, and operational issues regarding custodial records and correspondence. -- Return telephone calls and inquiries regarding many issues, including those of a confi dential nature, to State Government offi cials and managers, including members of the Attorney General’s Offi ce, General Counsel, Division Directors, Region Directors, and other Departmental employees. -- Review outgoing mail for documentation requiring fi ling, follow-up, response, and/or distribution, and act accordingly for the Disciplinary Management section. These may include invoices, travel reimbursements, training requests, vacancy posting requests, classifi cation requests, purchasing, electronic equipment requests, and items related to investigations and grievances. Documents are reviewed and handled according to policy. -- Compile relevant information about the offender’s complaints by utilizing OPUS and CTS systems and forwarding them to management for review. All responses are prepared and distributed by the position and then forwarded to the Communications Offi ce for documentation into the CTS system. -- Create and disseminate statewide information for the Disciplinary section to Prison Management and Division staff. -- Research, compile, and prepare all required reports in coordination with Executive leadership, Prison management, and Division staff. -- Coordinate disposition of records and information, both paper and electronic, with internal and external custodians in accordance with retention schedules and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable demonstrated skills and experience to compile, assimilate and organize both printed and electronic information.
  • Demonstrated experience in using office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet organizational needs.
  • Demonstrated computer skills include MS Word and MS Excel
  • Demonstrated experience performing a wide variety of administrative functions.
  • Considerable knowledge of program policies, procedures, and information systems to communicate and process information.
