About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $43,738.00 - $76,542.00 Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. This position is located at Western Correctional Center for Women (WCCW), Black Mountain, NC in Buncombe County. Western Correctional Center for Women is a minimum custody facility that houses adult female offenders. The responsibility of the Administrative Officer I is to administer and manage the complete business and personnel management functions at Western Correctional Center for Women. This position will have management and supervisory responsibility for budgets, accounting, personnel, canteen, clothes-house, mail-room and trust fund. This position will assign and monitor the work efforts of subordinate staff and will be responsible for the functions of planning and monitoring budgets, approval of expenditures, purchasing of supplies and equipment, inventories, establishment and monitoring of temporary employees and personal service contracts, fiscal audit functions, canteen, mail-room, and warehouse/clothes operations. This position will oversee the overall personnel operations to include hiring, benefits, timekeeping, Fiori, and staff disciplinary actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in HR, budgeting, research or administrative management; -OR- An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Documented Human Resource and Accounts Receivable/Accounts payable experience within NC State Government.
