About The Position

The Illinois Labor Relations Board is seeking to hire an Administrative Law Judge. The Illinois Labor Relations Board oversees public sector collective bargaining for the State of Illinois for all public employees outside the education sector. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated professional with substantial legal experience, preferably with a focus on state and/or federal labor law, with thorough knowledge of the Illinois Public Labor Relations Act who will be able to effectively conduct hearings involving complex representation and unfair labor practice cases. This position offers the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to resolve complex legal issues related to non-educational public sector labor relations in Illinois. Requirements

  • Requires graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Requires a valid license to practice law in the State of Illinois.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible legal experience in a public or private organization.
  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires ability to work at various times outside of normal office hours to meet deadlines.
  • Requires use of agency supplied laptop.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three (3) years of professional experience in litigation and administrative hearings for an organization such as a State agency.
  • At least three (3) years of experience interpreting and applying state and/or federal labor law.
  • At least three (3) years of experience with legal research and writing.
  • Prefers thorough knowledge of the Illinois Public Labor Relations Act.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of judicial and quasi-judicial procedure and the rules of evidence.
  • Prefers experience communicating agency policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Administrative Law Judge for the ILRB
  • Assists General Counsel with case review
  • Serves as a senior staff attorney
  • Represents the Board in public speaking engagements to communicate agency policies and procedures for case processing and labor relations issues
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonable within the scope of duties enumerated above
