About The Position

In support of the Center for the Study of Los Angeles’ (StudyLA) mission to assist students, faculty, and staff become agents for social justice, the coordinator will be proactive in handling all aspects of daily office and event operations, managing communications, and organizing work study students. Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities Provide staff support to the director and managing director’s programs, including planning and scheduling meetings, events, classes, and communications. Work with researchers to develop reports, presentations, and other briefing materials for use by internal and external audiences. Apply research findings to develop communications and messaging recommendations, and strategies for engagement with target audiences. Manage and produce written and visual content for email listserv, website, and social media networks to raise the visibility of StudyLA. Hire, train, and supervise work study students. Serves as a liaison among different departments within the university. Attend internal and external events or meetings as needed. Provide staff support for StudyLA’s senior leadership in collaboration with its development council, advisory boards, and other affiliated committees. Monitor current events, emerging trends, and legislative developments in the local news to identify timely topics of relevance to StudyLA team. Responsible for special projects as assigned by the senior leadership at StudyLA. Handle work of a confidential nature. Perform other duties as necessary. Requirements

  • Typically a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in the following areas:
  • Ability to write and edit clear, engaging, and grammatically correct content
  • Arithmetic and basic descriptive statistics to accurately synthesize data
  • Basic office software programs (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to convey information in a clear, concise way, synthesizing information and presenting it to others.
  • Leadership, professionalism, and sound decision-making ability
  • Use a great deal of independent judgment to determine workload priorities to complete work in a timely manner and identify and resolve problems.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks and to organize and prioritize workload efficiently is imperative.
  • Ability to learn new software independently.
  • Will offer training in new programs.
  • Ability to be proactive and able to anticipate the needs of StudyLA and implement a course of action.
  • Work respectfully with people from all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Communication or public relations experience is preferred.
  • Work experience in a higher education environment is preferred.
  • Interest in Los Angeles policy issues.
  • Shares in StudyLA’s mission of working toward a better, more equitable Los Angeles.
  • Content management systems to maintain website (preferred).
  • Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Emma (preferred).
  • Various social media platforms and social media engagement strategies (preferred).
  • Spanish language fluency is preferred.
