About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Food Services, the Administrative Assistant performs record keeping and administrative secretarial work in supporting the Food Services Department. Examples of Responsibilities: Performs administrative support for the Food Services Director and the cafeterias. Answers phones, generates correspondence, maintains files; sorts and processes mail, orders office supplies. Examines documents for correctness; prepares forms and other documents such as Free, Reduced, and Direct Cert. Lunch. Assists in compiling daily deposits; posts and maintains general records. Occasionally may assist in vending/counting money. Assists in placing food orders, maintains inventory; maintains the District freezer, and Mosiac/Menu planning program. Attends and successfully completes classes and other training to maintain current knowledge of all required equipment and procedures. Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictate

Requirements

  • High school graduation and at least two years of related office experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of office procedures, practices and terminology.
  • Knowledge of the use of office and data processing equipment, business arithmetic, American business English and spelling and the operation of computer software applications, particularly word processing, spreadsheet, database, email and internet.
  • Basic knowledge of bookkeeping techniques.
  • Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Ability to maintain multiple filing systems and records.
  • Ability to attend to a number of details occurring simultaneously and do so with accuracy.
  • Ability to work within timelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, coworkers, other employees, departments, officials, and other agencies.
  • Ability and willingness to learn job-related skills.
  • Ability to satisfy attendance requirements.
  • Excellent customer service, public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in operating computers and utilizing appropriate software applications.
  • Bookkeeping and record keeping skills.
  • Skills in operating above mentioned equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred knowledge/experience in nutrition and/or food service.
  • General knowledge of local government and its operations helpful.
