The Administrative Assistant III performs complex (journey-level) administrative support and/or technical program work for Education, Training and Vocational Services. The Administrative Assistant III is the lead employee in the provision of clerical services such as handling correspondence, documents, performing complex data entry, answering and routing calls, taking messages, greeting and directing visitors; and serves as the back-up employee in the completion of client payroll. The Administrative Assistant III works under the direct supervision of the Director of Education, Training and Vocational Services. The Administrative Assistant III has supervisory responsibilities over the other clerical staff in the department. Other duties may include, but not limited to reception duties, timekeeping, maintaining office inventory, ordering specialty and warehouse items, the coordination of confidential information, training others, and other duties as assigned. Must possess skills needed in using standard office equipment and software; knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures; and the ability to interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; and to communicate effectively. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Completion of work requires originating new methods and/or techniques and decisions are varied but based on well-defined principles. This position may be required to drive a state-owned vehicle. The Administrative Assistant III has no financial responsibility but is accountable for assigned property. The shift is generally 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. Some flexible hours may be required to complete special assignments.
