About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor in Political Science will provide in‑person instruction for undergraduate Political Science courses. Responsibilities include delivering course content, assessing student learning, maintaining required documentation, and supporting student academic progress. Instructors must adhere to the approved syllabus, meet all scheduled class sessions, and uphold university academic and professional standards. Deliver high-quality instruction aligned with KSU’s academic standards and the mission of the School of Criminal Justice and Government Relations. Support student learning across diverse educational settings, including traditional classroom, hybrid, and online formats, while preparing students for careers in criminal justice and public service.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Political Science or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in the discipline.
  • Subject-matter expertise in political science and related disciplines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and support students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to integrate practical, real-world applications into instruction.
  • Technological proficiency, including Microsoft Office and learning management systems.
  • Commitment to ethical standards, professionalism, and public service values.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods during instruction or office hours.
  • Operate classroom and instructional technology effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students and colleagues.
  • Organize instructional materials, manage assessments, and meet academic deadlines reliably.
  • Instruction may occur in traditional classrooms, partner sites, or online environments.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level or university level.
  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Political Science or related field.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and online instructional tools.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in‑person undergraduate courses in Political Science.
  • Prepare and deliver course content aligned with program learning outcomes.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student support and engagement.
  • Assess student performance and submit grades in accordance with university deadlines.
  • Maintain an updated course shell in the Learning Management System (LMS) prior to the start of each semester.
  • Participate in required trainings and comply with institutional policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Duties may evolve based on university or programmatic needs.
