About The Position
The Department of Political Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for its Lecturer pool in Public Administration for part-time teaching appointments. About Cal Poly Pomona Pomona is one of three polytechnic universities in the 22-campus California State University system and among 12 such institutions nationwide. About the Department of Political Science The Political Science Department offers a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with courses in six subfields: American Politics, Public Administration, Public Law, Political Theory, International Relations, and Comparative Politics. We also offer a master’s degree in Public Administration. The undergraduate program values research, with a strong capstone program, offering majors the opportunity to complete a senior project centered around a public-service internship or thesis. The department also has a strong tradition in teaching its students cutting-edge research methodologies. We also offer and prioritize several polytechnic, small-group experiences including National Model United Nations, Model Organization of American States, Judicial Internship, and department Study Away/Study Abroad programs (e.g., Sacramento, Iowa Caucuses, Japan, Italy, England, Switzerland). Applicants with a commitment to strong teaching are encourage to apply. The Position The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. We welcome applications from individuals who are experienced and student-centered to teach in the following subject areas: Public Policy, Fiscal Administration, Human Resources, Research Methods, Ethics, Intergovernmental Relations, City Management, NGOs, Emergency Management, Leadership, Urban Governance, Criminal Justice, Community Sustainability
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration or related discipline in the field relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
Nice To Haves
- A Ph.D. in Political Science or related discipline
- Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching.
- For MPA courses, both academics or practitioners are welcomed to apply.
- For applicants who are academics, ABD in Political Science or Public Administration required by date of application.
- For applicants who are practitioners, an MPA (by date of application) or Master’s in a related discipline and minimum of 5 years experience in government or nonprofit organizations required.
Responsibilities
- Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum and serve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
- Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.
