About The Position

Responsible for preparing and delivering surgical technology coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures. Educational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards. See Faculty Credentials at www.austincc.edu/facstaff/faculty-credentials. No substitution for educational requirements.
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) requirements: Associate Degree in Surgical Technology and 3 years non-teaching, operating room scrub role, work experience with a minimum total of 2 years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the last 5 years.
SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on courses taught within the discipline.
Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCAA). The only surgical technology-specific credentials that are accredited by the NCAA are the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential and the joint Certified Surgical Technologist/Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA) credential.
Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)

Responsibilities

Prepare and teach courses in the field of surgical technology to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.
Supervise students at clinical site.
