About The Position

Responsible for preparing and delivering surgical technology coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures. Requirements

  • Educational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards. See Faculty Credentials at www.austincc.edu/facstaff/faculty-credentials. No substitution for educational requirements.
  • In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) requirements: Associate Degree in Surgical Technology and 3 years non-teaching, operating room scrub role, work experience with a minimum total of 2 years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the last 5 years.
  • SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on courses taught within the discipline.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCAA). The only surgical technology-specific credentials that are accredited by the NCAA are the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential and the joint Certified Surgical Technologist/Certified Surgical First Assistant (CST/CSFA) credential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach courses in the field of surgical technology to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.
  • Supervise students at clinical site.
