About The Position

The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Hickam Air Force Base, HI, for its Accounting program. Specifically, the role involves teaching the Accounting for Managers (ACCT 605) course. This course provides a fundamental study of financial accounting and its application in managerial decision-making, covering topics such as financial statements, cost behavior, budgeting, performance measurement, and control systems. The objective is to equip students with the ability to use cost-volume-profit analysis for pricing and product mix decisions, and to create and analyze budgets for planning and controlling business activities. Emphasis is placed on developing critical thinking skills regarding accounting information and its use in managerial decision-making, with practical experience in financial statement analysis, cost behavior analysis, budgeting, and performance measurement. UMGC is a mission-driven institution serving approximately 90,000 adult learners globally, many of whom are juggling careers, families, and other priorities. A significant portion of the student body includes active-duty service members, reservists, National Guard members, veterans, and their families. As an adjunct faculty member, you will be a scholar-practitioner, actively engaged in your professional field while guiding the next generation of professionals. New faculty members are required to complete a two-week online new faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Professional experience in Accounting or related field
  • Certification such as the CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE
  • This position is specifically to teach on site at Hickam Air Force Base, HI

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements
