About The Position

The Addiction Recovery Support Specialist performs patient-centered activities and related professional services in caring for the psychosocial, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs of the patients. The Addiction Recovery Support Specialist is highly knowledgeable in substance use disorders (SUD) along with being well versed in the variety of community self-help supports groups.

Requirements

A valid Wisconsin-Substance Abuse Counselor or Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC, CSAC) and in good standing with the state.
Have a minimum of two (2) years serving persons with mental health and substance use disorders.
A valid Certified Peer Specialist Certification (CPS)
Bachelor’s degree or 5 years valid experience.
Current American Heart Association CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required upon hire. Bi-annual re-certification is required.
Formal training in crisis prevention and crisis intervention is required within sixty (60) days of date of hire. Annual recertification is required.
First aid training is required within ninety (90) days of employment.
Community based residential facility (CBRF) fire-safety training is required within ninety (90) days of employment.
Must hold a current and active driver’s license and be in good standing.

Responsibilities

Provide SUD care to assigned patients consistent with the scope of the employee’s training and credentialing.
Interact with patients, conducting coordinated one-on-one sessions that facilitate individual goals to address and support psychosocial, intellectual, physical, and spiritual needs.
Assist patient’s in completing their Recovery Maintenance Plan.
Implement components of the patient’s individualized, interdisciplinary treatment plan.
Report and record patient’s behaviors, interactions, responses to clinical interventions, and progress towards meeting the treatment plan objectives.
Understand and implement daily patient activities collaborating with staff.
Monitor behavior and intervene to ensure dignity, learning and well-being of all patients, and reinforce behavior though interactions based on the program philosophy.
Provide and document SUD group facilitation.
Use knowledge and skills to collect, review and document information regarding the patient’s status.
May complete clinical reports such as Social Services Admission Assessment, admission/discharge ASAM assessments.
May complete discharge paperwork.
May complete Master Treatment Plans.
Provide Interventions that are appropriate to the age of the patient population served, including individual and discharge needs as requested and identified by the clinical team.
Provide sessions to facilitate all community-based education, reviewing meeting selection and attendance based on the needs of the patient.
Provide education on sponsorship/mentorship/coaching and selection of and working with a temporary support.
Serve as a case manager for patients as assigned by treatment team through the interdisciplinary team process.
Initiate and maintain collateral contacts as assigned by treatment team to fulfill continuing care needs.
Build and maintain community partnerships.
Coordinate therapy planning and discharge planning as assigned by therapist.
Support patient accountability for building components of their ongoing plan to follow SUD treatment.
Complete assignments and documentation within required time limits.
Collect and record data for use in developing treatment plans.
Assist in patient adherence to participation in outcome study activities.
Report and document suspected cases of physical, sexual abuse and/or neglect, per Wisconsin Law and according to organizations policies and procedures.
Interact and communicate professionally.
Communicate verbally and in writing with other team members regarding patient schedule, programs, progress, behavior, and specific incidents.
Attend clinical staffing’s and related meetings as directed.
Attend all mandatory in-services.
Be a representative of program and organization by following program philosophy, advocating professionally for patients, and carrying self in a professional manner.
Transport patients as needed/requested, following all policies and procedures regarding vehicle use.
Maintain the physical environment of the program, indoors and outdoors, in a safe and orderly manner.
Take all necessary precautions and observe all safety rules to prevent injury to patients and to assure hospital resources are secure for all Rogers facilities where patients are involved with professional care.
Promote department goals and the mission of Rogers Behavioral Health.
Communicate goals to fellow staff members.

Include requirements and guidelines from external agencies. (i.e., Joint Commission, State of Wisconsin)
Educate inexperienced staff regarding regulations or requirements of those functions that relate to their area or department, as directed.
Demonstrate understanding and support of Joint Commission, Department of Health Services (DHS)75; 83, and other regulatory agency compliance regulations.
Involve self in learning and the application of standards relevant to the MHAR program.
Participate in in-service/seminars and other meetings to increase involvement and awareness to regulations.
Participate in Hospital committees, performance improvement team meetings, and team projects as directed.
Demonstrate punctuality and preparedness, work within assigned schedule.
Demonstrate effective communication skills and good organizational skills.
Contribute in a positive, solution-focused manner.
Participate in Performance Improvement (PI) Programs.
Participate in Rogers Operating System (ROS) where applicable.
Maintain familiarity with the ROS process and apply the model and tools to activities and projects.
Participate in ROS teams as requested.
Educate and involve self in the Hospital’s and MHAR department plans.
Conduct self in a professional manner.
Demonstrate organizational skills that promote timely response to all inquiries and to task completion.
Communicate with all individuals in a positive and professional manner.

Communicate concerns and provide solutions for same.

Comply with policies and procedures, including Human Resources, Infection Control, and Employee Health, Residential, etc.
Project a professional image by wearing appropriate professional attire, adhering to hospital’s dress code policy.
Adhere to all confidentiality regulations per DHS75 and 42 CFR.
Perform other duties as assigned.
May be required to float to other programs including adolescent programs to provide MHAR support.
