About The Position

Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the U.S. retirement market, is hiring for an Actuarial Assistant I with relevant work experience and one or more SOA exams to work in the Actuarial Department. This position will work in our home office in Topeka, Kansas or Overland Park, Kansas. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work. Who Are We? What Does the Job Look Like? The Actuarial Assistant I supports the implementation of new annuity products and monitoring of our in-force business, with a primary focus on ensuring accurate administration through our third-party administrator (TPA). The role partners closely with Marketing, Sales Support, Operations and Legal to ensure product designs are accurately implemented within administrative systems and appropriately reflected in client-facing materials. This position plays a key role in maintaining product integrity from development through ongoing administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with major or minor in Actuarial Science or Mathematics
  • Candidates with at least one SOA exam will be considered, VEE credits a plus
  • Commitment to pursue an actuarial credential demonstrated by preparation for Society of Actuaries administered exams or exam credit
  • Two years of actuarial experience preferred but not required
  • Strong computer skills including Excel and SQL
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently

Nice To Haves

  • Annuity experience preferred
  • Strong programming / scripting skills including VBA, SQL, or Python preferred

Responsibilities

  • Translate product design requirements into clear administrative and system implementation guidance for our third-party vendors
  • Develop and review test case results to validate new product set-up and modifications to existing products, ensuring TPA systems calculate in accordance with product specifications
  • Perform ongoing monitoring and validation of in-force business to confirm alignment with contractual guarantees
  • Contribute to cross-functional product development initiatives and product launch readiness activities
  • Prepare and deliver communications for both internal and external stakeholders in response to product-specific inquiries
