Requirements

  • Degree level education in computer science or similar
  • Significant experience in an Information Services/Information Technology environment with good business acumen
  • Proven experience of leading and growing software development teams.
  • Proven experience of developing and managing relationships with 3rd party suppliers
  • Experience with multiple different types software risks
  • Several years of experience in working with SaaS and PaaS.
  • Prior experience overseeing others, not necessarily as a manager
  • Evidence of leading, shaping and designing innovative applications and driving any changes
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language
  • Expertise in Agile Software Development techniques and Methodologies, plus at least one of OO programming languages like C++, Java, C#
  • Expert in Web and Mobile Application Development
  • Expert in application design patterns and processes
  • Significant experience in leading global teams related to functional area, and demonstrate technical SME and proficiency to technically lead teams

  • Experience of working within a quality and compliance environment and application of policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Experience building microservices
  • Experience implementing a microservices architecture
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of the external market

Responsibilities

  • May be a direct manager of other Software Engineers providing all day to day leadership required.
  • Defines and directs the Software Engineering activities and ensures that Software Engineering teams deliver subject matter expertise and best practices to IT projects, IT change management teams, and initiatives of Customer Facing IT organisations.
  • Lead large teams to complete complex software projects and initiatives.
  • Works with other AZ teams or preferred third-party suppliers to provide strategic and innovative technology applications aligned with AstraZeneca business needs.
  • Design and lead code reviews.
  • Provides technical input to business cases, Request for Proposals, supplier selection and evaluation of proposals.
  • Leads risk management for risks/issues identified in third party supplier impact assessments.
  • Ensures infrastructure and application lifecycle maintenance needs are identified and managed.
  • Maintains awareness and knowledge of industry trends and proactively identifies and drive identification of opportunities to be leveraged in Information Technology applications.
  • Works with Architects to define business IT applications, ensuring their alignment with business strategies and priorities, as well as expected target benefits.
  • Leads effort to plan, engineer and design IT applications and oversees the design and documentation of IT application components.
  • Leads, Coaches, and Mentors their Software Engineering team(s).
  • Leads the maintenance of applications, incident/problem identification, and resolution using ITIL methods and processes.
  • Leads efforts to ensure that modified applications interact appropriately, areas of impact are considered and addressed and meet performance requirements.
  • Drives the planning of activities associated with implementation, release, maintenance and support of IT applications.
