About The Position

The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports the Oregon National Guard. You are NOT required to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position. The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for a Accounting Technician. This is a permanent full-time state position located in Salem, Oregon. This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ (AFSCME) union. NOTE: This recruitment announcement will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. What You Will be Doing This position processes payments, reconciles account balances, and monitors fiscal activity of those accounts, and provides administrative support by tracking and monitoring payroll costs and vendor expenditures for their assigned program. Maintains, gathers, compiles, and inputs data into databases; verifies and updates reports; prepares various budget and accounting documents for OMD Management. Examines, reconciles, and monitors standard accounting data and records associated with Cooperative Agreement programs, General Fund and Other Fund expenses. This position tracks and reconciles both federal and state expenditures and research and initiates corrections by making adjusting data entries. This position applies laws, rules, regulations, and fiscal policies and procedures to functions of assigned accounts. Provides accounting support for the various divisions and respective branches in the form of reports, analysis, and application of accounting principles.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits.
  • OR One (1) year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits. -AND- At least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2.
  • OR Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university.
  • OR At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.
  • Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.
  • The employee may occasionally travel while performing duties and must possess and maintain a valid driver's and acceptable driving record or have an alternate reliable form of transportation.
  • As a condition of employment, employee must have and maintain a favorable Criminal background History check and be able to obtain and maintain a favorable Department of Defense National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Suitability Determination. (Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment and the circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered).
  • The employee must not have been convicted of a crime that involves handling money, credit cards or forgery.
  • Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01.
