About The Position

We are a multi-unit retail organization seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting functions with a focus on cash operations, payroll accounting, and management reporting. This is a hands-on leadership role for a self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, cash-intensive retail environment and collaborating closely with operations and one other part-time accounting clerk subordinate.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory accounting role with payroll processing responsibilities
  • Prior experience in retail, multi-unit, or cash-intensive environments strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of cash management, payroll accounting, and financial reporting
  • Proficiency required in Excel, Google Sheets, and QuickBooks Enterprise, Gusto Payroll
  • Candidates will be tested to assess skill level
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate with vendors, management, employees and tax officials
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and proactively
  • Reliable transportation required to commute to Uptown Oakland

Responsibilities

  • Oversee cash receipts, cash controls, and daily cash management across multiple retail locations
  • Lead cash planning and forecasting, including short- and medium-term cash flow projections
  • Perform and review bank reconciliations, accounts payable reconciliations and other financial system controls
  • Manage payroll processing and payroll accounting, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Supervise accounting staff and ensure timely, accurate completion of assigned duties
  • Prepare and review management reporting, including store-level performance, cash flow, and variance analysis
  • Support month-end close activities related to cash, payroll, and retail operations
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
  • Partner with operations and leadership to support business planning and decision-making
