About The Position

The Accounting Supervisor oversees the daily and monthly operations of the trust accounting systems including Civil Process, Operational and Occupant Trusts of the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office. The primary responsibilities include maintaining proper accounting procedures, revising as needed while monitoring accuracy of daily and monthly reconciliations. Maintain daily cash deposits and collection activities of services billed.

Requirements

  • Current resident of Wisconsin
  • High School Diploma required
  • At least three (3) years of work experience in accounting required
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or closely related field preferred
  • At least three (3) year of supervisory and/or management experience in accounting, finance, auditing or closely related field preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of CORE/ProPhoenix
  • Intermediate knowledge of INFOR

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Trust Accounting Activities. Manages the daily operations of all MCSO trust accounts. Ensures accuracy, efficiency and professionalism to the public and other agencies. Addresses issues that arise in all daily fiscal trust operations. Monitors deposits and refunds.
  • Train and Supervise Staff. Monitor daily workflow, supervise, and train Fiscal Accounting staff including cashiers at the Criminal Justice Facility (CJF). Ensure CJF is covered by scheduling cashiers. May perform cashier duties. Update job manuals.
  • Support Accounting Manager. Assists Accounting Manager with ongoing entries, year-end account balancing and other accounting needs.
  • Payments. Monitor activity from commissary and phone/electronic sales. Pay invoices for services provided as well as reconcile spreadsheets from CORE activity to invoices.
  • Operate as liaison for MCSO and CRC. Operate as liaison with Community Rehabilitation Center (CRC) to balance, reconcile, and research trust accounting and operational issues relating to Operating Trust Subsidiary ledgers.
  • Supervise Collection Program. Supervise collection program of occupant account balances, evictions, civil process balances and unclaimed funds.
  • Maintain daily cash deposit activities/audit. Supervise and audit the County's computerized account system to ensure proper procedures and coding have been utilized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Perform all functions for the Assistants/Accountant and Manager as needed during vacancy/turnover, leaves of absence, or vacations.
