The Accounting Specialist I is responsible for compiling, balancing, and reporting financial information on the performance and financial position of the Credit Union.

Requirements

  • One year to three years of similar or related experience.
  • One-year financial institution experience preferred, and familiarity with basic accounting/bookkeeping functions preferred.
  • (1) A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain sound knowledge of Credit Union policy, procedures, documentation, and regulations related to area of responsibility.
  • Balance and reconcile assigned General Ledger (GL) Accounts with supporting backup monthly or quarterly.
  • Analyze GLs for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with policy.
  • Inform the Accounting Manager and/or Controller of discrepancies requiring special attention.
  • Ensure outstanding items are cleared in a timely manner and are clearly identified.
  • Support branches/departments with financial information as needed.
  • Process Accounts Payables, Expense Reports, and Corporate Visas.
  • Prepare and post GL entries as needed.
  • Ensure research and adjustments for staff discrepancies are performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective coordination and communication with vendors.
  • Demonstrate strong regulatory knowledge applicable to this position and understand and comply with government regulations with particular emphasis on the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), US Patriot Act and related regulations.
  • Actively participate and fulfill expectations in the Credit Union Email Security Awareness Program as outlined in the Information Security Program Acknowledgement document.
