About The Position

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture is a state wide campus, with faculty based on University campuses, at Research and Extension Centers and in every Arkansas county. It consists of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) and the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service (CES), and is home to more than 1400 employees. The Division was established in 1959 and is headed by the Vice-President for Agriculture. The Division headquarters is located in Little Rock with the rest of the University of Arkansas System Administration. The Accounting & Compliance Specialist is responsible for the processing, analysis, interpretation, and management of financial accounting data. This position is governed by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), state and federal laws, and institution policy. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, financial statements, and ledgers
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer technology related to accounting systems.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and reconcile accounting records and reports.
  • Ability to interpret and apply provisions of laws, rules, or policies to specific situations.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports.
  • Ability to provide guidance and technical assistance to end users.
  • Ability to scrutinize transactions for accuracy.
  • Ability to organize, plan, & prioritize work.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Workday financials experience
  • Higher Education or State Government experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Responsibilities

  • Review and process Workday transactions for compliance and accuracy.
  • Prepare and process data files using mass data upload tools.
  • Prepare and post accounting journals and budget amendments.
  • Prepare various financial reports, including state, federal, and ad-hoc reports.
  • Assist with year-end processes
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations
  • Assist in gathering and reviewing data for preparation of fiscal year budget
  • Assist other departments within the Business Office when needed in various accounting duties.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new processes and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
