About The Position

The Accountant position is responsible for sales and use tax reporting, return filings, and coordination and support of State audits to ensure compliance with state and local sales and use tax regulations. The role requires strong accounting knowledge to timely review, audit, and certify company purchase orders and payment requests, assign taxability, reconcile responsible general ledger accounts, including journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger analysis, and support for month-end while ensuring compliance with company authorization requirements, internal policies, and operating procedures and accounting standards to safeguard company assets. This position ensures timely and accurate tax filings, collaborates with internal departments to manage and mitigate tax risk, and advises management on the tax implications of business activities and strategies to minimize tax liability.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one (1) to five (5) years of related experience in Accounting, Taxation, Finance or closely related field preferred, depending on education. Knowledge of Federal and State Tax regulations is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including mathematical calculations and data analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word.
  • Skilled in using internet search engines for research and information gathering.
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
  • Highly self- motivated with a strong willingness to learn.
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of five (5) years of accounting, taxation, finance, or related experience required; Or Associate’s degree with three (3) years of accounting, taxation, finance, or related experience required; Or Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year of accounting, taxation, finance, or related experience required.
  • Will require training in Company Policies and Procedures after hire.
  • Current employees must meet all technical and safety training requirements for current position, as specified in the Master Training Plan.
  • Must participate in the following subject training and pass required certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AS400 systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Sales and Use Tax Compliance and Reporting: Responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing accurate and timely sales and use tax returns for state and local jurisdictions. Ensures compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations by monitoring filing requirements, due dates, and tax rate changes. Maintains proper documentation and supporting schedules to substantiate reported amounts.
  • Review and Transaction Certification: Requires strong accounting knowledge to review, audit, and certify company purchase orders, invoices, assign PO taxability of payment requests for proper tax treatment. Ensures transactions comply with company authorization requirements, internal policies, and operating procedures. Identifies and resolves discrepancies to prevent incorrect tax payments or non-compliance.
  • General Ledger Reconciliation and Internal Controls: Reconciles responsible general ledger accounts on a regular basis, investigates variances, and prepares adjusting entries as needed. Supports month-end and year-end close processes. Strengthens internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Audit Coordination and Regulatory Support: Coordinates and supports state and local sales and use tax audits by gathering requested documentation, preparing reconciliations, and responding to auditor inquiries. Works with internal departments and external auditors to resolve audit issues efficiently while minimizing financial exposure and penalties.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Tax Advisory Support: Collaborates with Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Operations, and Management to identify and mitigate sales and use tax risks. Advises management on the tax implications of business activities, transactions, and strategies. Provides guidance on process improvements and compliance best practices to minimize tax liability and support informed business decisions.
  • THM: Promote cleanliness and order through the implementation of the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant in like new condition.
