About The Position

This Accountant position is within the Fort Bend County Auditor's Office. The role involves preparing entry level grant financials according to grant contracts, monitoring and preparing reports or billings for various county agreements to ensure compliance and maximize funding. Key duties include setting up agreements in the financial system, monitoring revenue, and closing out agreements. The Accountant will also work with outside agencies and departments on audits, analyze financial documents, troubleshoot accounting problems, and assist with annual financial report audits. Additionally, the position requires preparing accounts receivable uploads and participating in emergency management activities during local disasters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Five years of job related experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting and other finance-related areas.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • The ability to deal with people effectively and professionally.
  • Self-motivated to follow through independently on assigned projects.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA preferred.
  • Three years accounting/finance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare entry level grant financials according to grant contract.
  • Monitor and or prepare reports or billings for residual accounts, law enforcement agreements, and other agreements entered into by the County, by ensuring compliance with agency requirements in order to continue maximizing funding for the county.
  • Setup grant or other agreements in financial system along with budget, monitor revenue reimbursements, and close out agreement when completed.
  • Works with outside agencies and departments on audits when necessary.
  • Analyze financial documents such as general ledger, balance sheet, budget, etc. for the County Departments.
  • Troubleshoot accounting problems and have corrections made in subsystems or create journal entries to correct the issue if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned which can include, working with Internal Audit staff and fee officer departments to maintain transactional data in financial system.
  • Assist with preparing various annual financial report audits, working with outside auditors.
  • Prepare accounts receivable upload into accounting system for generation of payment and proper recording in the general ledger.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
