About The Position

SUMMARY The accountant provides accounting expertise that supports the Foundation’s Financial Services department, including fund management, gift and contributions accounting, reporting, and investment support. This role serves as point-person to address customer requests for research and reporting, in collaboration with the team. The person in this role must possess strong GAAP accounting skills, sharp analytical skills, and independent judgement, along with the ability to handle more complex reconciliations and apply donor restrictions and nonprofit accounting principles. This person must also be a clear communicator with the ability to effectively present information and respond to internal and external customer needs. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or a related field preferred
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional accounting experience
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting fundamentals
  • Strong reconciliation and core accounting skills
  • Strong research and analysis skills
  • Demonstrated capability in the preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and the interpretation of financial data
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel, and the ability to adapt to new processes and systems
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tools
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and shifting priorities
  • Ability to manage workload with limited oversight
  • Ability to interpret and present data to varied audiences
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nonprofit, higher education, or foundation accounting
  • Exposure to endowment or investment accounting
  • Familiarity with donor databases and ERP accounting systems
  • CPA license

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review moderately complex journal entries and perform monthly reconciliations
  • Prepare and review reconciliations to include bank reconciliation
  • Independently process gift revenue, donor restrictions, and fund-level transactions
  • Prepare fund, department, and program-level financial reports
  • Collaborate with Gifts and Records team to reconcile donor database and accounting system
  • Trust accounting
  • Assist with investment accounting to include entries, reconciliation, and reporting
  • Primary contact to triage requests for research and ad-hoc reporting
  • Support payroll processes and assist with accounting and payroll filings
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, annual financial reporting
  • Support compliance with ASC 958, ASC 820, and restricted fund requirements
  • Prepare assigned schedules and documentation for annual audit & tax activities
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policy
  • Identify discrepancies and recommend process improvements
  • Participate in projects
  • Participate in on-going training, education and staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
