About The Position

The Bureau of Finance and Management (BFM) is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team in the role as an Accountant III or IV. This role provides the opportunity to assume higher-level governmental accounting responsibilities from the outset. The candidate selected for this position will have the opportunity to: prepare financial statements for the State of South Dakota; prepare rate analyses for internal service funds; provide statewide leadership, advocacy, and service to other state agencies; assist in implementation of a new enterprise resource planning accounting system. Requirements

  • For the A3 classification: a 4-year Accounting Degree and 3-5 years of progressive experience equivalent to Level 2 of the Accounting Job Family OR a 4-year Accounting Degree and total of 4-7 years cumulative experience in accounting.
  • For the A4 classification: a 4-year Accounting Degree and 3-5 years of progressive experience equivalent to Level 3 of the Accounting Job Family OR a 4-year Accounting Degree and 7-12 years cumulative experience in accounting.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Query, and Word, and other desktop tools
  • Knowledge of governmental (fund) accounting
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Governmental Auditing Standards
  • Knowledge of governmental fiscal administrative processes.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to pay close attention to details
