About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Accountant II to join our team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work well both independently and as part of a team. The Accountant II will be responsible for managing financial records, analyzing financial data, filing local, state, and federal reports, running biweekly payroll, preparing financial reports and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. The position reports directly to the CFO.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience and education
  • At least 1-4 years of experience
  • Knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), theories, methods, concepts, and techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • BlackBaud Financial Edge (NXT) experience or knowledge preferred.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge (NXT) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support completion of all monthly and quarterly reports on a timely basis, including, but not limited to, financial statements, cash flow projections, general ledger reconciliations and reports, and bank reconciliations
  • Partner with CFO on the development, review and update of Finance Department accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal control standards and GAAP
  • Support all day-to-day accounting functions and drive month-end closing process, ensuring all transactions for the monthly period are entered
  • Review AP entries for accuracy and completion
  • Assist the CFO with year-end close, annual audit preparation, and 990 tax return reporting.
  • Oversee the management of the vendor profiles, W-9’s, and the annual distribution of 1099’s
  • Work closely with the Grants Manager to ensure grant reporting and contract compliance
  • Perform analysis of expenditures against budget
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile general ledger balance sheet accounts including but not limited to payroll and benefits including payroll withholdings, health, 401K, and other payroll related items
  • Review Accounts Receivable and other Cash Receipts transactions in the accounting system
  • Perform review of confidential financial documents and information and ensure adherence with SPFC’s policies
  • Work closely with the Development team in the day-to-day cash receipts process and recording of contributions
  • Process bi-weekly company payroll, including verifying timecard charges, and addressing payroll inquiries
  • Collaborate with the HR team by reviewing payroll changes to ensure accurate and timely payroll data entry
  • Aid in preparing and recording payroll journal entries
  • Participate in workflow improvements to increase timeliness, efficiency, and improve the accuracy of financial reporting
  • Cross train with other team members in all the critical functions of the department
  • Assist with the annual company budget preparation
