The Accountant I is responsible for arranging billing of government or private agencies on behalf of University of Arkansas students receiving financial support for their studies. This position is also responsible for assisting with reconciliations that occur in the office. This would include things like financial aid, clearing accounts, tuition, loan programs, and accounts receivable. In this role, the Accountant I must communicate with both students and the representatives of the sponsoring agencies along with Financial Aid, and use spreadsheets that will need to be maintained to track data for reporting and reconciling. They will provide assistance with general student account analysis and customer service in order to help fulfill the mission of the Treasurer's Office. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • The formal education equivalent of an associate's degree in general business, business management, or a related field
  • Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.
  • At least three years of experience in fiscal operations
  • Knowledge of accounting ledgers and journals
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and computer technology related to accounting systems
  • Ability to interpret and apply provisions of laws, rules, or policies to specific situations
  • Ability to review and analyze financial information
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques
  • Ability to conduct research and perform basic quantitative quality assurance reviews
  • Ability to communicate using clear communication skills which could include but not be limited to the following methods: personal face-to-face contact; using e-mail or other written correspondence; and through telephone contact

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an accounting or billing office
  • Experience with student financials in higher education
  • Previous reconciliation experience
  • Experience with Excel
  • Experience with payment application for accounts receivable
  • Experience with graduate assistant tuition waivers
  • Experience with the University of Arkansas systems: Workday, UAConnect (Peoplesoft), Transact (formerly CashNET), and BankMobile from the administrative side
  • Experience with the Customer application in Workday Financials
