Position Summary: Responsible for assisting in the preparation and reconciliation of financial statements. Performs a variety of duties, under direct supervision, to support senior management and adhere to production. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses beginning to work knowledge of subject matter. HYBRID: 3 days week onsite in Norfolk, VA / 2 days week remote.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred in accounting, or the equivalent amount of experience required.
  • 0-2 years related experience required
  • Analytical thinking skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Strong computer skills required; must demonstrate intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook and possess / develop working knowledge of the Company’s accounting and other systems.
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be able to research tax and accounting information on the internet
  • Must be able to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies across areas of organizational responsibility
  • Must be able to understand accounting guidance and principals to independently resolve accounting issues and make informed decisions
  • Required to work weekends and evenings if necessary
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and audit work papers in support of monthly close process
  • Prepare, process, and reconcile Accounts Receivable transactions
  • Participate in accounting process improvements, analysis, and automation of cash related transactions and other transactions as identified
  • Assist in ensuring the accuracy of the financials and audit / tax preparation
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and company defined financial controls are maintained for responsible areas
  • Assist in special projects, as required
