About The Position

Performs intermediate to complex accounting duties. Ensure the accurate recording and reporting of a unit's financial transactions. Financial Services seeks an Accountant who will: manage plant fund and capital project accounting activities; process project account activities including funding entries, project budgets, and project closeouts; prepare and post journal entries; reconcile accounts; monitor compliance with University policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles; prepare accounting reports and schedules; assist with audit requests; process and approve accounting transactions in the University’s financial system; and communicate effectively. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field
  • OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
  • Applicant must be eligible to work in the United States

  • Experience in preparing detailed financial reports and statements
  • Experience in financial variance analysis
  • Experience using Adobe and Microsoft Office products
  • Experience utilizing accounting software and performing account reconciliations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accountancy

Responsibilities

  • Assists in preparing year-end entries and reports
  • Reviews project financial activity to ensure appropriate capitalization, expense classification, and compliance with accounting standards
  • Prepares and reviews financial transactions related to plant funds, capital assets, and construction-in-progress activity
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts, including plant funds and the general ledger
  • Monitors project budgets and expenditures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with approved funding sources
  • Prepares spreadsheets and reports to support financial analysis, reconciliations, and project tracking
  • Assists in audits by preparing audit work papers and responding to audit inquiries related to plant and capital project activity
  • Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and university regulations
  • Participates in relevant training and professional development
