About The Position

The Accessibility Specialist position coordinates accommodations for students with disabilities at Minneapolis College. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: Identifying and implementing accessibility measures for prospective and currently enrolled students with disabilities. Conducting intake interviews and registering students with documented disabilities with the office. Serving as mediator between students and the college as necessary for disability related issues. Serving as the rotational testing lead to support the delivery of accommodated and arranged testing. Increasing campus community awareness and utilization of the Accessibility Resource Center. Participating in recruitment activities specific to students with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Experience in working higher education with background in social work, accessibility or related field.
  • Experience working with a diverse population and individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Rehabilitation Act 1973.
  • Knowledge and proficiency of common technologies and ability and willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone and through e-mail and other written correspondence.
  • Demonstrates an ongoing understanding of cultural fluency, incorporate culturally responsive practices, and actively engages in antiracism professional development learning opportunities.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Experience working in a postsecondary educational setting with students with disabilities.
  • Fluent in second language.
