About The Position

The Access Services Manager facilitates superior library service to patrons through administration of the Access Services Department (circulation and technical services), managing and planning the acquisition, cataloging, and processing operations of physical library materials, along with the planning, implementation, and supervision of the circulation of all Library materials, maintenance of the patron database and supervision of Access Services staff. This position also supervises and manages the provision of passport acceptance and license plate sticker renewal services. This is a full-time (37.5-hour work week), in-person, exempt position with a starting annual salary of $73,609 - $81,788, depending on qualifications and experience. The Morton Grove Public Library is located at 6140 Lincoln Avenue, Morton Grove, IL 60053.

Requirements

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution required.
  • Three years’ public library experience required.
  • Increasing responsibilities focused on circulation and technical services, including supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public library management.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service in person, on the telephone, and via e -mail and other forms of electronic communication.
  • Ability to use and manage the library's integrated library system and RFID related peripheral hardware and software to provide efficient and effective service to patrons.
  • Professional experience with acquisitions and processing of print and nonprint materials.
  • Professional experience in original and copy cataloging and classification of all formats of library material using Dewey Decimal, LC subject headings, machine-readable cataloging (MARC) records, RDA and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules.
  • Ability to deal calmly and effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful or emergency conditions.
  • Skills in problem solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to analyze and coordinate department staffing and training activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
  • Ability to develop and implement long- and short-range plans.

  • Frequently moves and traverses with library materials of up to 50 lbs.
  • Constantly positions oneself to access, move, prepare, and place library materials.
  • Must be able to meet attendance requirements.
  • Constantly practices situational awareness, observing and greeting patrons.
  • Must be able to work a variable schedule which may include day, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Has the ability to attend in-person offsite programs, meetings, and events.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Executive Director and the Management Team to plan services and develop and implement annual goals and objectives of the Library's Strategic Plan.
  • Evaluates attainment of objectives and service effectiveness of the Department's activities.
  • Works with the Executive Director and the Management Team to facilitate cooperation among staff and ensure continuity of services throughout the Library.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Access Services staff according to established personnel guidelines.
  • Plans, directs, and manages acquisition process, cataloging and processing of all library collection materials.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of circulation and patron registration activity at the main Circulation Desk and at self-check units.
  • Understands and enforces the policies and procedures of the Library and of the Cooperative Computer Consortium (CCS), while safeguarding confidential and restricted information.
  • Oversees and performs cataloging and acquisitions, and ensures that the policies and guidelines of the Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) shared ILS consortium are followed within the department.
  • Responsible for ILS training for department staff.
  • Serves as Head of Facility for Passport Services.
  • Supervises and oversees all intra-/inter-library loan and shelving activity across all departments.
  • Prepares annual budget for operational needs and special projects within the department.
