About The Position

The Academic Success Advisor, Senior acts as a key contributor to promoting and supporting student retention and graduation university-wide and advises students in making timely progress toward degree completion through a range of in-person and virtual academic counseling and support strategies. This position is for experienced individuals with advanced training in academic advising and robust experience in student success activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Actively builds knowledge of key university and departmental resources to better support students.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable in environments focused on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to take initiative, set priorities, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to develop action plans with clear goals, milestones, and timelines.
  • Documents activities thoroughly and monitors progress toward established objectives

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group academic advising to support student academic success.
  • Collaborates closely with students, faculty, and staff to enhance academic outcomes.
  • Proactively monitors student academic performance and addresses concerns, questions, and issues.
  • Guides students in exploring academic options, including degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaching, extracurricular activities, study abroad, research, and internships.
  • Supports students in selecting academic and co-curricular options aligned with their goals, interests, and skills.
  • Contributes to advising team efforts to maintain student satisfaction with program and degree progress.
  • Conducts follow-up with students and uses university data to promote academic success.
  • Represents the college/department/school to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups.
  • Attends and/or presents at orientations, recruiting events, activities, and workshops.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.
  • Implements college or departmental initiatives with an understanding of broader university priorities.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop solutions for program- or project-related needs.
  • Coordinates programs or activities focused on student retention and success, including setting timelines, goals, and budgets (when applicable).
  • Oversees training and development related to advising services, projects, and programs for staff.
  • Assesses and evaluates advising policies, projects, and programs, contributing to implementation and improvement.
  • Prepares detailed documents, proposals, and reports based on analysis.
  • Escalates or redirects urgent or unresolved requests after attempting resolution.
  • Leads projects centered on student support and may address complex student issues.
  • Engages with internal and external stakeholders as needed; may serve as a course instructor or resource for faculty.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
