About The Position

The School of Molecular Sciences is seeking a motivated, student centric Academic Success Advising Coordinator to support the school academic advising team. The Academic Success Advising Coordinator promotes and supports student retention and graduation by ensuring timely progress toward degree completion through a range of in-person/virtual academic counseling and student support strategies. In addition, this role will assist in coordinating the ASU/Creighton University 3+4 Doctor of Pharmacy program in collaboration with Creighton University, advise undergraduate SMS and non-SMS students in taking biochemistry and chemistry courses, assist with event planning, and other duties as assigned to support advising initiatives, student persistence, and student retention in the school. This position supports both immersion (i.e. on-campus) and online student populations for undergraduate students. This role reports directly to the Associate Director of Academic Services for the school. Hybrid work or an alternative work schedule may be considered after hire and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitors undergraduate student academic performance, addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues and collaborates closely with students
  • Assists with advising School of Molecular Sciences and ASU students on a weekly basis
  • Acts as a leader to coordinate the 3+4 ASU/Creighton University Doctor of Pharmacy program including collaborating with ASU and Creighton University staff, meeting with continuing and prospective students; developing continuing education, materials, and programming to prepare students for admission to Creighton University; meeting with university and department partners to provide regular program updates, data analysis, and other duties as assigned to support the program
  • Serve as the pre-health representative for the unit at various meetings, events, and initiatives related to pre-health at ASU; help support college and university wide pre-health initiatives as needed
  • Identifies all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaching, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student's goals, interests, and skills
  • Provides individual and group academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success; work with various student populations including graduate, undergraduate, online, on-campus students, international, etc.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Academic Services and unit in event planning for undergraduate events
  • Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success
  • As required, act as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attend and/or present at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops
  • Manages escalated issues from both internal and external constituencies
  • Demonstrates mastery of conflict resolution principles and techniques
  • Coordinates training and development related to projects and programs for staff
  • Assist in training and supporting new advising staff
  • Utilizes and demonstrates fluency with a wide range of relevant and appropriate software and retention-focused strategies including Salesforce, DARS, Peoplesoft, MyAnalytics, eAdvisor, etc.
  • Prepares detailed documents, proposals, reports, and provides analysis of data for identification of trends
  • Applies collaborative approaches and strategies to devise solutions for student requests and clearly develops and conveys the nuances of outcomes verbally and in writing
  • Navigates complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans, establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships
  • Works as a university agent in ensuring ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and successful progress to completion, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services, and utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success
  • Possesses a clear understanding of the unit goals of the college and departmental processes and expectations; drives unit initiatives with holistic understanding of the unit goals
  • Collaborate with leadership to provide solutions associated with specific programs or projects
  • Ability to manage projects by engaging peers and/or students to complete project goals.
