The primary responsibilities of the Academic Director, Child Crisis Services is to ensure that all residents receive appropriate educational instruction that complies with state academic standards in a PRTF setting. The Academic Director, Crisis Services will be heavily involved in the licensing process under the nonpublic school classification in NC. This position coordinates closely with clinical and behavioral treatment teams so that education supports each youth’s overall treatment plan. Coordination and working with the State, Department of Public Instruction, and other stakeholders across the state to ensure that all educational requirements are being met.

Requirements

  • Masters’s degree in Education, or related field
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license in Special Education: EC General Curriculum (K–12) or Cross-Categorical (K–12) (Out-of-state teaching license - must be in process of attaining North Carolina teaching license)
  • Three years of experience in teaching with progressing experience.
  • One year of supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Drivers License (Valid) - USA

Nice To Haves

  • Certification related to exceptional children or special education
  • Knowledge related to IEP development and special education compliance, behavioral strategies and trauma-informed education
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with a mental health diagnosis, an intellectual/developmental disability, and/or substance use disorder.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that teaching staff comply with all regulatory educational requirements
  • Hiring and onboarding of all teaching staff
  • Maintain curriculum compliance while providing support to teaching staff
  • Monitor academic progress and adjust instruction as needed
  • Ensure that all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Coordinate academic services with clinical and therapeutic teams, including speech and OT services, ensuring educational goals align with each resident’s treatment plan
  • Provide supervision to teachers and educational staff
  • Support safe and structured learning environments tailored to the needs of the youth
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures and assist in crisis situations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and comply with all agency policies and procedures
  • Maintain training as required and requested
  • Complete all other relevant responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
  • Driving and travel may be required
