About The Position

Guide students on their path to health careers as an Academic Counselor! The Pre-Health Professions Academic Counselor will be instrumental in helping shape the next generation of healthcare professionals. As the expert advisor for students preparing for professional programs in chiropractic, dental, medical, optometry, pharmacy, physician assistant, podiatry, and veterinary medicine, you will play a vital role in their academic and personal development. You will be responsible for comprehensively advising pre-health students on curriculum requirements, application timelines, exam preparation, and other elements critical for acceptance into competitive programs. Through individual meetings, workshops, and campus events, you will guide students every step of the way. You will also collaborate closely with faculty to ensure students stay on track academically and gain valuable experiences to strengthen their applications. Above all, you will inspire and motivate students as they work to achieve their dreams of careers in healthcare. Your passion for helping others will be apparent as you support students through both successes and setbacks. You will take pride in seeing the students you've mentored go on to serve their communities as the next generation of doctors, PAs, and other providers. Requirements

  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of an advisement team
  • Excellent written, non-verbal, and verbal communication
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of the position/office as they arise
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation abilities
  • Ability to develop and deliver oral presentations to diverse groups of stakeholders, including current and enrolled students, parents, and university personnel
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential student information
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Knowledge of basic statistics
  • Ability to integrate the use of software packages to procure and present information clearly and concisely to students
  • Strong advising and/or counseling skills
  • Attentiveness to detail, strong organization skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple requests and handle them in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population, including minority and international students.
  • A Master's degree or a Bachelor's + Two (2) years of related work experience (plus any additional required experience)
  • Two years of experience working with students in a higher education setting, which may include graduate assistantships
