About The Position

The Academic Advisor 2 provides advanced-level professional advising to students in Elementary Education within the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences and serves as a resource for students pursuing secondary education teacher certification. Provides guidance, advice, and support to faculty and staff in all matters regarding undergraduate student advising and program advising records. Serve as primary contact for advising inquiries, student graduation, undergraduate advising policy and procedures, and administration of the undergraduate advising system for the program. May mentor/train junior advisors. May participate in student recruitment activities. Additional Information: This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. Monthly Salary: $4,061.90 - $5,077.00 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of academic advising or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Positions that will lead or be supervised will require one or more years of full-time experience leading or directing the work of others.
  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques, with the ability to build trust and provide safe, supportive opportunities for students, from varied backgrounds, including, but not limited to, underrepresented, first-generation, and/or high needs, to identify and pursue paths to graduation that support their educational goals and post-graduation plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and respectfully interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, and an understanding of the institutional barriers and equity gaps faced by historically underserved student populations in higher education.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings, and willingness to travel.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying standards and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in student personnel, educational administration, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in academic advising or a related client-based setting.
  • Familiarity with college processes including admission, transfer, and academic program requirements.
  • Experience with application of state and federal regulations and standards.
