About The Position

Arts & Science is seeking a dedicated Academic Advisor to join the Preprofessional Advising team in the College of Arts & Science. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Preprofessional Advising, the academic advisor will advise students on prehealth, prelaw, and business studies academic performance, policies, and other learning opportunities. Special focus includes but is not limited to prehealth programming, working with the student groups and advisory boards related to health professions, serving as member of the Committee on Evaluations to Schools of the Health Professions, and drafting the school-wide committee letter of evaluation. This staff person will liaise with other prehealth advisors across the University and maintain up to date information on trends in graduate health careers etc. In addition, this individual will advise and counsel a significant cohort of first-year students, serving as the primary advisor until they declare their major, and remaining as a support and resource person throughout their undergraduate career. This position will analyze data received through student inquiries, market research, and input and recommend new programs and courses to meet changing needs. Liaise with faculty and other University personnel, representing the Dean and the College to internal and external constituencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years experience in counseling, advising, student services, program development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate policies to individuals at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Liberal Arts subject strongly preferred
