PURPOSE This position under general supervision reports to the Senior Academic Advisor, advises undergraduate students concerning the academic requirements for their chosen program. This position is responsible for assisting with course selection, registration process, and major selection. This position provides information on and refers students to University resources that can assist in meeting their needs or solving problems; communicates accurate and timely information and interprets institutional, core, and major requirements. This position will play a vital role in maximizing student retention by building relationships with students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong active listening and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work as a team member and to work independently.
  • Demonstrated initiative and follow-through skills; tact, diplomacy, and judgment in dealing with students, parents, faculty, and administrators.
  • Detail-oriented and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Management, or related field of study.
  • Up to one (1) year of experience advising students in higher education.
  • Experience with Banner, Argos, Starfish, Laserfiche, and Degree Works.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental academic advising methodologies.
