About The Position

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for an Airframe Stress Engineer to develop long term and strategic stress relationships, with both internal and external customers, to ensure coordination and success of MAP Engineering department strategies and external partnerships. Responsible for supporting the decision-making process that involves the work and resources of others. Engages colleagues and encourages use of novel and creative tools and thinking. Support discussions and alignments with the technical authorities to ensure MAP delegation requests are fully enabled and supported. This role is a transverse role and the jobholder is expected to support the wider AA1 community, to support technical signatories and approvals along with mentoring and aligning ways or working within the stress skill perimeter. Deep knowledge of Airworthiness directives e.g. DOA and POA etc. is essential for the job. Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in aerospace, mechanical or aircraft construction engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 13 years experience in the aviation industry with preference to Airbus aircraft.
  • Capability to train towards and obtain Design Office and Chief Engineering delegations for A320 Family Aircraft.
  • Experience in airframe structures design
  • Experience in fatigue and damage tolerance justifications
  • Experience in stress calculations / justifications
  • Knowledge of aeronautical used materials and corresponding corrosion protection
  • Knowledge of repair design and stress principles
  • Knowledge of Aircraft configuration management rules
  • Knowledge of AIRBUS internal procedures, processes and tools
  • Experience with AIRBUS manuals (Structure Repair Manual, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Illustrated Parts Catalog etc.)
  • Eligible for employment in the US.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time overseas and domestically within the Airbus international network, supplier and customer sites.
  • Must hold an EASA, TCCA, or FAA Class 2 Medical and be able to perform duties as aircrew on a daily basis.
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on the production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces

Responsibilities

  • Support functional stress team to adhere to processes, methods & tools (PMT).
  • Responsible for task delivery for full Aircraft structures (Airframe Design and Stress domains).
  • Work with the other domain Principal’s and HoE to define and deliver the product strategy.
  • Support through delegated authority and act as a point of escalation where appropriate.
  • Perform monitoring/guidance/support of Internal stress and design team and Sub-contracting firms providing structure analysis work.
  • The jobholder is accountable for the given approved repair, rework and troubleshooting instruction as well as for design update solutions in front of the corresponding design/stress office and authorities (EASA/FAA)
  • To provide airframe engineering support to the FAL US (and to remote A320 Family FALs) during the complete manufacturing process from the delivery of the sections, FAL and flight Line activities, up to the aircraft ferry flight in all structure related items including engineering presentations in front of the customer
  • Creation, approval and authorization of temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) in line with design and airworthiness requirements.
  • Challenge processes, methods and ways of working to ensure best overall delivery to Time, Cost and Quality
  • Ensure safe operation of the product with respect to structural integrity and operational effectiveness.
  • Present technical explanations/corrective actions to the flight test department and to the customer if required (internal and external customers)
  • Functional guidance and strategy definition for the stress skill within MAP.
  • Ensure adherence to regulations, relevant design principles, processes, methods and manufacturing capabilities guidelines and define, interpret and validate tests
  • Interface and communicate with relevant stakeholders
  • Provide relevant input to design for the creation of work solution for manufacture and support to other functions (eg. production, customer support) as needed.
  • Utilize cross program fertilization to challenge and maximize product performance.
  • Promote and take personal action to deliver on commitments and strengthen customer focus.
  • Ensure consistency and share lessons between work streams including communication with Principal Engineers.
