The FacOps 3D Scanning Intern will support the museum by adding to our library of gallery scans. Using a Leica BLK360 3D scanner, they will take lidar and image scans, assemble point clouds, and create 3D models of the facility. These models will be used by multiple departments for everyday business for years to come. In addition to the scanning exercise, our intern will assist us in a detailed reorganization of our digital and hardcopy architectural drawings. Over the 9-week program the Operations 3D Scanning Intern will contribute 3D scans of spaces within SFMOMA to improve building and space awareness, engagement, and employee efficiency by: · Meeting with various members of the Operations Team and partners to understand the need for and usage of Lidar scans of the entire building, with a focus on gallery and public spaces. · Learning how to operate the Lidar scanner and ingest point clouds into Sketchup. · Executing Lidar scans of gallery and public spaces, create and upload point clouds to the internet. · Auditing existing Building Plan Archives organization, nomenclature, and gaps in information. · Working with department staff to understand how the Operations Team utilizes the Building Plan Archive. · Participating in other team projects requiring technical expertise and creativity in analysis. This project supports the FacOps goals, "Provide an exceptional office experience for staff" and "Reduce the environmental impact of the museum facility." The Summer 2026 Internship will offer 9-weeks of hands-on experience and mentorship along with weekly presentations and discussions with various departments in the museum, off-site educational visits within the Bay Area community, and access to various tours and events within the museum.
