TL;DR: Pick Teal if you tailor your resume for many applications: its free plan scores your resume, checks each version against the job you saved it for, and tracks the application. Resume Worded is built to grade and rewrite one resume, and its full reports are on Pro at $49 a month, against Teal+ at $29 every 30 days.

Both tools will score your resume for free and tell you what to fix. If all you need is one resume checked once, either will do. The difference starts at your second application, when the resume has to change for a new job, and it grows with every application after that.

Most comparisons split the two: Resume Worded to grade the resume, Teal to track the search. That split misses how people who land offers actually search. In Teal's analysis of 14.5k people who tracked their 2025 search in Teal through to an offer, the routine was about 5 applications a week, a tailored resume for each one (small tweaks, not rewrites), and an offer in about 2 months. That's roughly 40 versions of one resume. Grading the first one is step one. Checking each version against its own posting is the work, and that's what Teal is built for: each job you save holds the version you sent, checked against that job's top 5 keywords, free.

A resume score and a job match measure different things

Both tools give your resume a score out of 100, but the two numbers are not interchangeable. Resume Worded's Score My Resume and Teal's Resume Checker each grade the document against their own checks: measurable results, bullet length, missing sections, wording. Teal counts 80% or higher as a good score. A resume can score well in one tool and lower in the other, because the checks are not the same.

A job match is a different question: does this resume use the words this posting uses? Employers screen for it. In Harvard Business School's 2021 "Hidden Workers" study, 88% of employers agreed that qualified high-skills candidates are vetted out of the process because they do not match the exact criteria established by the job description.

Resume Worded answers that question in Targeted Resume, a separate tool you paste a job description into. Teal answers it inside the Resume Builder. Open the Job Matcher, pick a job you saved in your tracker, and each keyword shows green if your resume has it and red if it does not. Teal's Resume Job Description Match page shows how it works.

Neither tool can guarantee that a resume will pass an employer's applicant tracking system or lead to an interview. Use the missing keywords to describe experience you really have more clearly. A keyword you cannot back up will not help you in the interview.

At the pace in Teal's data, a search means about 40 applications over 2 months, each with its own version of your resume. Here is how that work goes on each free plan:

  • Your base resume: both free plans score it and list the top issues. Call it a tie.
  • A version for each job: Teal's free plan keeps unlimited resumes and unlimited PDF downloads, and each saved job holds the version you sent, so application 31 does not go out with application 12's resume.
  • Checking each version against its posting: in Teal, the check runs on the job you already saved, and the free plan shows that job's top keywords. In Resume Worded, each check is a new Targeted Resume run, and the full report and unlimited uploads are Pro.
  • Keeping track of the 40: Teal's Job Tracker moves each job through Bookmarked, Applying, Applied, Interviewing, Negotiating and Accepted, with its notes, linked contacts, a follow-up date and the resume you used. The Chrome extension saves a job straight from the posting. With Resume Worded, you keep that record somewhere else.

Fixing what the checker finds

In Teal, the Resume Checker lives in the Analyzer tab of the Resume Builder, so you fix issues where you found them. It flags things like bullets with no measurable result, a missing professional summary or target title, too many skills, and bullets that run long. Click an issue and "Show Me" jumps to the exact section on your resume. Bullet analysis grades a single bullet on length, spelling, grammar, metrics, action verbs and keywords. The free plan includes 2 bullet analysis credits, and the first automatic run does not count toward them.

When a bullet needs a rewrite, use one of your 5 free AI resume bullet credits. Teal+ makes them unlimited. Or write the fix yourself and watch the score move.

On Resume Worded, AutoFix does the rewriting, and it is part of the paid product.

Teal vs Resume Worded pricing

Both tools have a free plan, and neither has a free trial. Teal+ bills in 7-, 30- and 90-day periods, with a $179 annual plan offered at checkout. Resume Worded Pro bills by the month, by the quarter, or once for a year. This table shows the cheapest list price that covers each search length:

About 3 months$79 (one 90-day period)$99 (3 months)
A year$179 (annual plan at checkout)$229 (one payment)

The 2-month search in Teal's data costs $58 on Teal+ and $98 on Resume Worded Pro. On Teal, you may not need to pay at all: the score, the keyword check for each job and the tracker are on the free plan. Teal+ adds every keyword for each job, advanced resume analysis, unlimited AI writing and more templates, for the stretch where you want them.

Teal+ renews automatically until you cancel, and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds are not automatic: email membersupport@tealhq.com within 2 days of a weekly charge, 7 days of a monthly charge, or 14 days of a quarterly or annual charge, and each request is reviewed. Resume Worded's monthly and quarterly plans also bill until you cancel. Its terms say it does not refund first-time purchases, and a member who forgot to cancel has 48 hours from the billing date to ask.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Teal or Resume Worded better for checking a resume before applying?

For a single resume checked once, both work: each free plan gives a score and the top issues. For a search with more than a few applications, Teal is the better fit. Its free plan also checks each resume version against the job you saved it for and tracks the application. Resume Worded checks a resume against a job in a separate tool, Targeted Resume, and puts its full reports on Pro.

Is Resume Worded free?

Resume Worded has a free tier. A free scan gives a score out of 100 and the top issues, and Targeted Resume and LinkedIn Review each have a free version. Resume Worded's Pro page lists the full reports, including the Line-by-Line analysis, as Pro features. Pro costs $49 a month, $99 every 3 months or $229 for a year, as of October 16, 2026.

Does Teal have a resume checker?

Yes. Teal's Resume Checker scores a resume from 0 to 100% using 15+ checks, and the score updates as you edit in the Resume Builder. The free plan shows the top basic issues, and Teal+ adds advanced analysis.

Can a resume score guarantee that you pass an applicant tracking system?

No. Neither Teal nor Resume Worded can guarantee that a resume will pass every employer's system or lead to an interview, and no tool can reproduce every employer's applicant tracking system. A score tells you how your resume reads against that tool's own checks.
