JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Mental Health Manager, the Youth & Young Adult Specialist will perform work involving the care and treatment of individuals experiencing severe and persistent mental illness. The role of the Youth & Young Adult Specialist is to help facilitate positive relationships by offering coping strategies, role-modeling, and strategies to improve socialization within peer-supported relationships. This person will serve as an advocate, have good organizational skills, demonstrate professionalism, and have excellent communication skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists members individually and in group settings regarding basic living activities that include money management, personal hygiene, nutrition, housing, shopping, meal preparation, community living, and recreation. Evaluate members to determine their needs and set goals. Provides psychosocial rehabilitative services within a team concept. Establish peer relationships to help resolve issues related to the individual’s mental health. Provide support to individuals and families in crisis and stressful situations. Encourage all members to participate in agency-sponsored social, recreational, and educational activities. Coordinate and facilitate support groups, enrichment activities, and other related programs, activities, or functions. Responsible for unique projects, such as newsletters, social media, and special peer-related activities. Provides information on community resources. Records and maintains records of services provided and observed behaviors. Inform contracted providers, supervisory staff, and other professionals about the member’s status. Attends staff meetings and participates in training activities as required. Maintains regular and predictable attendance, and works weekend hours, overtime/extra hours as required. Performs other duties as assigned. HOURS Monday- 10:30am-4pm Tuesday- 12pm-6pm Wednesday- 10:30am-4pm Thursday- 12pm-6pm Friday- 10:30am-4pm Can pick up Job Coaching shifts to reach full-time hours. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, functions are considered light to moderate. Work performed includes the ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling), and lift to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office environment within a sedentary range setting.
